Generic drugs are as safe as brand-name drugs because generic drugs must meet the same standards required by the FDA for purity, strength and quality as brand-name drugs. Since generic drugs have the same active ingredients as brand-name drugs, they produce the same result as a brand-name drug. They also may have the same risks and benefits as their brand-name drugs.
Many hospitals provide generic substitutions for treating patients. Generic drugs are supported and endorsed by the American Medical Association. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration continues to observe reports of adverse drug reactions reported between generic and brand-name medications. LDI also maintains its own review and approval process above and beyond FDA guidelines.
